Fancy WHAT?…Jessica WHO?

Who are the women behind the Jacksonville Women’s Small Biz?  You’ve seen Facebook posts about their products, but who are the personalities behind the products?  That’s what our first several blog posts are all about:  A personal look at the hard-working women who inspire in us both love of their products as well as pride in their female entrepreneurship that is contributing to our local economy.

Let’s take a moment to learn more about Jessica Van Wie, owner of Fancy Wipes.  Maybe you can relate to her!

JWSB:  Jessica, you have a small business called Fancy Wipes. Could you tell us about the product behind the name?

Jessica:  Fancy Wipes are unique personalized baby wipe cases designed as a gift for any new mom or baby shower.

JWSB:  What inspired you to start your business?

Jessica: My inspiration was evoked from my children and strong desire to own a business.  After creating my very own wipes case after my daughter, Taylor Lorraine, was born, I received tremendous positive feedback from friends and family to make more for them!

JWSB: You are a mom of little ones, aren’t you? How do you balance running your business with taking care of your kids?

Jessica: Being a mom of a toddler girl, Taylor Lorraine, and 4-year-old boy, Justin, can be challenging when trying juggle housework and new Fancy Wipes orders—but balancing it all somehow works by preparing things ahead of time, anticipating what may come up, and having the support of my husband who gives me ‘free time/me time’ to get it ALL done.

JWSB: You found the Jacksonville Women’s Small Biz Facebook page and have utilized it to promote your business and network with other small business owners. Do you have any examples of how the JWSB has benefited your business? What do you like most about it?

Jessica: I like the interaction it allows to communicate with others in similar industries or communities—JWSB has given me opportunities to find out what is happening in our community and has introduced me to successful business owners who I may not have otherwise been able to reach!

JWSB: When you’re not busy making Fancy Wipe cases or taking care of your little ones, what do you like to do?

Jessica: I enjoy Pilates, bike riding, walks on the beach and spending time with my family.

JWSB:  How long have you lived in Jacksonville and what are your three favorite things about the city?

Jessica: Almost 2 years—I love the beaches, various local restaurants (non-chain) and the friendly people!

JWSB: What is your favorite quote?

Jessica: “Things in life happen for a reason”—I love that quote because I believe that there is purpose for everything you do in life and ALWAYS a lesson to learn—either about yourself or others.

JWSB: Did you have a career before having children?

Jessica: I have a master’s degree in Nursing and hold a long career in open-heart surgery!  Also, I taught at a community college as a Clinical Nursing Instructor training nursing students in their first year of school.  I will return to nursing in August, I believe, and no longer be a stay-at-home mom!  But, I still plan to continue my Fancy Wipes business.

Thanks, Jessica, for sharing a little bit of your world with us!  Readers, show your support Jessica, as well as what we’re trying to do for women entrepreneurs on this page by leaving a comment below.  Let us know what you think!
